Speech by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Liu Biwei at the Opening Ceremony of the Innovation House
2016/09/08

Honorable Chairman Andersen of Capital Region,

Chairman Madsen of Region Sjælland,

Distinguished partners for our new Innovation House, and guests from Denmark and China,

Good afternoon!

It gives me great pleasure to join you at the opening ceremony of the Innovation House. On behalf of the Chinese embassy in Denmark, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Copenhagen Capacity for their vigorous efforts in strengthening China-Denmark economic cooperation.

At present, China-Denmark relationship is at its all-time high. When meeting with Prime Minister Rasmussen in Washington in March, Chinese President XI Jinping said that the mutual trust between our two countries has been enhancing, the practical cooperation has been deepening, and our bilateral relations are facing a new historic starting point.

In the meantime, despite the difficulties in global economic growth and international trade, we are delighted to see that China-Denmark economic and trade cooperation has been making constant progress and bearing fruits. According to statistics in Denmark, the bilateral trade volume has exceeded 10 billion US dollars for two consecutive years. In the first half of this year, the bilateral trade reached 5.2 billion dollars and maintained steady growth, which was much better than the overall foreign trade outlook of both countries. As of June 2016, according to China's statistics, Denmark investment in China was 3.1 billion dollars and China's investment in Denmark was nearly 300 million dollars.

Many China's well-known enterprises such as Huawei, BGI, Goertek, COSCO, have already invested and developed their business in Denmark.

China and Denmark are highly complementary in economy. Denmark has advantages in such fields as biological technology, energy saving and environmental protection, food and agriculture, and green energy. China's 13th Five-year Plan puts forward five new development ideas of innovation, coordination, eco-friendly, open and sharing. In the above-mentioned aspects, the two countries are closely linked to each other. With enterprises' rocketing capital and strong demand of industrial upgrading, the Chinese market is full of business opportunities. The two countries have great potential of cooperation in areas such as technical innovation, industrial upgrading and service trade.
