Remarks by H. E. Ambassador Deng Ying at Reception for 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
2017/09/23

Minister for Energy, Utilities and Climate Lars Christian Lilleholt,

Lord Chamberlain Michael Ehrenreich,

State Secretary Jonas Bering Liisberg,

Mr. Mogens Lykketoft,

Distinguished guests, Ambassadors and representatives,

Dear compatriots and friends,

Welcome to today’s reception celebrating the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

68 years of time is such a short moment in the long human history, while it was a period of stormy and magnificent years for the new China. The Chinese people opened up the historical process of striving for domestic prosperity and national rejuvenation and happiness of the people. China has made remarkable achievement in its development and modernization.

Forging ahead to build the Chinese Dream, China is carrying out the Dream Realization Project for the last 5 years, advancing the construction of Brilliant China. China’s 22 thousand kilometers of High Speed Rail surpasses the total mileage of the 9 next largest HSR countries. Meanwhile its 30.41 million kilometers of optical cable application makes it the No. 1 in the world. Currently, pushing forward its 13th Five-Year Plan in an all-round way, China is implementing innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development, focusing on supply-side structural reform to speed up transition of economic growth mode, as well as promoting industrial restructuring and growth impetus, while maintaining a medium to high speed of economic growth. In the first half year, China’s GDP grew by 6.9 percent on a year-on-year basis, contributing more than 30 percent of global growth.

China actively pursues a win-win and mutually beneficial strategy of opening up, willing to share its own development opportunities with the rest of the world, and provide public goods for the globe. Committed to creating a community of shared future for mankind, China has taken active part in the settlement of global and regional hotspot issues, including the DPRK Nuclear Issue. President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at Davos World Economic Forum, announcing China’s continuous support and promotion of globalization, sending clear message that China actively engages in global governance, winning applauses far and wide. China successfully held the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Now the Belt and Road Initiative has ushered in a new stage from planning to implementation. With the AIIB and the Silk Road Fund put into operation, new platforms have been established for mutually beneficial cooperation, injecting new impetus for implementing the UN 2030SDG. At the Xiamen BRICS Summit concluded earlier this month, China committed itself to promoting the “BRICS Plus” cooperation approach, sending out strong signal to advance South-South cooperation as well as global development cooperation, thus warmly welcomed by emerging economies and developing countries. Facts speak out that China’s development is an opportunity for the world. Not only is China a beneficiary of but also a builder and contributor to economic globalization.

Today, China’s reform and opening-up drive has born rich fruits. Seeing ahead, the wonderful stroll of China story is unfolding. The 19th National Congress of CPC will convene on October 18th. This is a greatly important event in Chinese political life. The Congress will elect a new central leadership, draw up guidelines for actions and major policies that meet the requirements of the times, leading Chinese people on the march towards the Two Centenary Goals. China is now standing at a new historical starting point, and we have more confidence than ever in the realization of the Chinese Dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

Denmark is the wonderful “Kingdom of fairytales”. I’m honored to be Chinese Ambassador to Denmark during this important phase in the development of bilateral relations. The beautiful golden autumn scenery of September reminds me of the famous Danish folk song “Harvest song”(Marken er mejet), a joyful vision of which vividly mirrors the China-Denmark relationship entering “the years of harvest”.

China attaches great importance to the friendship and cooperation with Denmark. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Denmark over 67 years ago, the bilateral relationship has maintained good momentum of development, underpinned by ever-strengthening political mutual trust. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II along with other members of the Royal family has made significant contribution to our bilateral ties. In 2014, Her Majesty paid her second visit to China. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik is leaving for China tonight, inaugurating the building of Sino-Denmark Center for Research and Education. During the first half of this year, Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen respectively paid successful visits to China. Minister Lilleholt attended the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) in China. Minister for Higher Education and Science Søren Pind arrived in Shanghai today to attend Pujiang Innovation Forum 2017, promoting innovation cooperation between the two countries.

The high-level exchanges effectively boost in-depth development in practical cooperation in various fields. “China-Denmark Joint Work Program” sets forth the framework for further cooperation in the next phase. The volume of bilateral trade has exceeded 10 billion USD for 3 consecutive years, while two-way investment keeps growing steadily. The 2017 “China-Denmark Tourism Year” is yielding sound results. Danish friends told me that Chinese visitors were expected to spend over 308 thousands overnights in Denmark this year, setting a new record. Recently, a number of high officials including Minister of the National Energy Administration, Vice Minister of Education, Military Friendship Delegation of Chinese PLA, Vice Mayor of Beijing paid their visit to Denmark, boosting cooperation in relevant fields. It is estimated that by 2020, China’s incremental wind power installed capacity would reach 50 GW, 10 times the current gross wind power installed capacity in Denmark. While China’s newly increased users of clean-district heating would reach 500 million, 100 times the current Danish population. The Chinese efforts and promotion in energy transition and green economy have released great potential for the two countries to deepen cooperation in clean energy. What’s more, I am glad to inform you that in three days, the Escort Task Group of Chinese PLA Navy will visit Denmark after two years, enhancing military exchanges and cooperation between our two countries.

Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,

Next year marks the 10th anniversary of establishment of China- Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two sides are preparing for a series of important celebrations including the “Lighten Up Copenhagen 2018” through active communication so as to push forward the Partnership. I look forward to joining hands with my Danish colleagues in maintaining sound momentum of China-Denmark relations and further strengthening bilateral ties with new achievement. I firmly believe, through our constant joint efforts, the friendship between China and Denmark is bound to remain evergreen and flourish, just like the holly-trees in Copenhagen.

Now I’d like to propose a toast,

For the prosperity of both China and Denmark,

For the brighter future of China-Denmark relations,

For the peace and development of the world,

For the health of all the guests present today,

Cheers!
