Warmly Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of
the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet

On May 23, 1951, the Central People's Government and the Local Government of Tibet signed the "Agreements on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet," marking the region's peaceful liberation.

The Tibet Autonomous Region held a series of celebrations from mid-May to early August to commemorate the 50th anniversary for the region's peaceful liberation. On July 19 more than 20,000 people rallied in Lhasa. Chinese vice president Hu Jintao, also head of the central delegation, attended the grand gathering and delivered a speech.
