H.E. Ambassador Yang Houlan's Address at the 70th Anniversary of Founding of China Radio International
(November 21, 2011)
2011/11/21

Honorable Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Narayan Kaji Shrestha,

Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Kamala Roka,

Respectable Secretary of Office of Prime Minister and Council Minister, Mr. Lila Mani Paudyal,

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear friends,

Good evening! It’s my great pleasure to attend the 70th Anniversary of Founding of China Radio International(CRI) organized by the CRI Confucius Classroom in Nepal. I would like to use this opportunity to extend my warm congratulation to the 70th anniversary of founding of CRI and sincere thanks to all guests gathering here who have done great contribution to promoting friendship between China and Nepal for a long period.

China Radio International is a state-owned radio station. With transmission of radio wave, it links the heart of China and the world. After 70 years of unremitting efforts and development since its establishment in 1941, CRI has become a mass media with international influence and also an international broadcasting agency using most languages in the global area. The Nepali program of CRI commenced its formal transmission in 1975 and now broadcasts 4 hours a day. In the past 30 years, its audiences come not only from Nepal, but also from Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and AE United Arab Emirates. They acclaim the Nepali program of CRI as the friendship bridge in the air which flies over the Himalaya Mountain. The National Council of CRI Listeners’ Clubs in Nepal organized by audiences themselves also plays important role in promoting understanding and friendship between two countries.

China and Nepal are good neighbors linked by the Himalayas. The deep friendship between two countries originated from culture exchange. The stories of Manjushree, master monks Fa Xian and Xuan Zang, Arniko and Princess Bhrikuti are still being talked about by Chinese and Nepalese today. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal 56 years ago, no matter how the international and domestic situations changed, our bilateral relations have developed healthily, smoothly and comprehensively. Exchanges and cooperation in various areas such as politics, economy and culture have been deepened and understanding as well as friendship between two countries have been strengthened continuously. I’m so glad to see more and more Nepalese friends are eager to learn Chinese language and Chinese culture. Confucius Institute and Confucius Classroom are very popular in Nepal. More and more Nepalese students go to study in China. I believe, with joint efforts from both sides, cultural exchange and cooperation between two countries will be widened and the relationship of comprehensive cooperation partnership will be continuously developed.

Lastly, I wish the CRI Confucius Classroom have a bright future, and score more significant achievements.

Thank you.
