It is No Longer Hard to Travel for Tibetans

Liu Hua, who once was the Aid-Tibet personnel during the 1980s, went to Lhasa again during National Day vacation. When he was seated in a taxi in front of the Himalayas Hotel, he found that the traffic in Lhasa is much more easier for him after decades.

Liu Hua recalled that when he first worked in Lhasa, it is tough for people to go out. The common vehicle is bicycle. People had to ride horses if they wanted to go to further places.

It was not until 1985 did Lhasa have 2 bus routes.

Nowadays, there are over 2000 taxis in Lhasa totally. The charge is 10 yuan in the city. The taxis in Lhasa are all Santana which has surprised Liu Hua who said even Beijing didn't have such rank of taxis.

Despite taxi, the tricycle and bus are also the citizens' favorable ways.

According to statistics, there are nearly 80,000 automobiles in Tibet right now, among which 15,000 are private ones. Eve

ry 34 people would own one automobile on the average. The mileage of the roads opened to traffice has reached 24,000 kilometres.
