On the basis of the efforts to identify its key fields, priority frontiers
and research directions for the knowledge innovation program (KIP) piloted
at the Academy, CAS launched 19 major interdisciplinary projects from
1998 to 2001, with a total budget of 170 million yuan (US$ 20 million).
