Liu Yandong Attends the Opening Ceremony of 27th Southeast Asian Games and Meets with President of Myanmar

From December 10 to 11, 2013, Vice Premier of the State Council Liu Yandong attended the opening ceremony of the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar at the invitation. President U Thein Sein of Myanmar, Vice President Sai Mauk Kham and Vice President U Nyan Tun met respectively with Liu Yandong.

Liu Yandong said that her attendance of the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Games at the invitation is to share the grand event with Myanmar, and also to implement the important consensus between the state leaders of the two countries and to push forward China-Myanmar friendly cooperation. China cherishes the "paukphaw" friendship with Myanmar and regards Myanmar as in the same community of common interests and of common destiny sharing weal and woe. Both sides should, from a strategic and long-term perspective, firmly forge ahead in the right direction of bilateral relations to ensure a sustained and stable development of China-Myanmar relations.

Liu Yandong expressed that both China and Myanmar are at a critical period of development. Both sides should, in accordance with their respective development strategies, deepen practical cooperation to push for new progress of major cooperation projects. Myanmar will hold the rotating presidency of the ASEAN next year. China is ready to work with Myanmar to promote greater development of China-ASEAN relations.

Liu Yandong said that deepening China-Myanmar cooperation goes with public opinion, wins public support and benefits the peoples for their livelihood. The Games is an example for cultural and sports cooperation between the two countries. Both sides can take this opportunity to further promote various people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to unceasingly enrich the contents of China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

U Thein Sein thanked China for offering help for Myanmar hosting the Games. The Chinese state leader attending the opening ceremony shows that China attaches importance to Myanmar-China relations and the support for Myanmar as always. However the situation changes inside and outside Myanmar, Myanmar will always adhere to the friendship with China and deepen all-dimensional bilateral cooperation.

Liu Yandong and Vice President U Nyan Tun as well witnessed the signing of the agreement on economic and technological cooperation as well as of exchanges of notes on a number of material and technological cooperation projects.
