2017/10/25

On October 25, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Donald Trump of the United States (US) at request.

Donald Trump congratulated on the successful conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. Donald Trump said that the 19th CPC National Congress has attracted worldwide attention and he himself also paid close attention to the important policy-related information sent out by President Xi Jinping at the Congress. The American people are having lively discussions about his upcoming state visit to China. He is looking forward to meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing and making in-depth exchanges of views on strengthening US-China cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Xi Jinping thanked Donald Trump for the congratulation. Xi Jinping pointed out that the just-concluded 19th CPC National Congress, which has drawn a blueprint for China's future development, is of great significance. As being clearly noted in my report to the Congress, China will unswervingly stay on the path of peaceful development, pursue a mutually beneficial and win-win strategy of opening up, expand the convergence of interests with various countries, and promote coordination and cooperation with other major countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that China attaches great importance to developing China-US relations and is willing to work together with the US to advance the long-term, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit. Mr. President will pay a state visit to China soon, and I expect to jointly plan with you in Beijing the future development for China-US relations so as to promote more mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples and make greater contributions to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity.
