| Spokesperson's Remarks on Former Japanese Prime Minister Mori Yoshiro's Visit to Taiwan (2003/12/25) |
|
Q:Former Japanese Prime Minister Mori Yoshiro has
left for Taiwan today, becoming the second former Japanese
Prime Minister to visit Taiwan after Fukuda Takeo. What is
your comment on this?
A:Former Japanese Prime Minister Mori Yoshiro insists on visiting Taiwan in disregard of the solemn representations and resolute opposition of the Chinese side. We wish to express our deep regret and strong dissatisfaction. The Taiwan issue is a major issue of principle concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We firmly oppose any ties of official or political nature between Japan and Taiwan. We solemnly request Japan to honor its words with actual deeds. It should observe the principles set forth in the three political documents, including the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, and the commitments Japan has made on the Taiwan issue. The Japanese side should take effective measures immediately to remove negative political impact of the visit, so as to safeguard the Sino-Japanese relations. |
