Speech by Consul General Sun Guoxiang at the Film Reception in Commemoration of The 66th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the 80th Anniversary of the "September 18th " Incident
(September 8, 2011)

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and the 80th anniversary of the "September 18th " Incident in 1931, which was premeditated by the Japanese army and signaled the beginning of the Japanese Aggression in China. Thank you for attending today's film reception and joining us in remembering these historic events.
Today we are here not only to commemorate the victory, we are here today to learn history, reflect on the lessons drawn from the war, highlight the importance of peace and look into the future.

Looking back, we can never forget the unveiling support extended from people around the world including from the United States to the Chinese people in fighting against the Japanese invaders. From 1942 to 1945, young pilots from the American Volunteer Group (AVG), better known as the "Flying Tigers", flew over the extremely dangerous Hump across the Himalayas, shed blood and even laid down their lives to help the Chinese people fight the Fascists. Chinese and American peoples fought shoulder to shoulder and forged deep friendship in the war.

The history of war of resistance against Japanese Aggression tells the Chinese people that backwardness leads to defeat and China must be strong and prosperous. It is imperative to carry forward the great national spirit of patriotism, stay united and make bigger contribution to China's peaceful reunification and great rejuvenation. China is a peace-loving country and the Chinese nation is a peace-loving nation. China stays firm on the path of peaceful development, pursues the independent foreign policy of peace and win-win strategy of opening up. Whatever changes might happen in the international situation, the Chinese people will work with people of other countries for a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity.

In a couple of days, we will celebrate the traditional Chinese festival--the Mid-Autumn festival for family reunion. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartiest festive greetings to all my friends present. I wish you all a wonderful evening.
Thank you.
