Foreign Leaders Send Congratulatory Messages to China for the Successful Hosting of the Olympic Games

In recent days, foreign leaders sent messages to President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders, offering their congratulations on the successful hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games and extending their appreciations to the Chinese government and people for what they did for the Games. Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni praised the Beijing Olympic Games, saying that the Beijing Olympic Games had far-reaching and extensive significance and displayed to the world the great achievements China made in development. Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, said that the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games was amazing and unparalleled and the Beijing Olympic Games would be another milestone in the history of China. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said that Beijing Olympic Games was a great sports event and the Philippine people stood together with the Chinese people in celebration of this grand event. Malawi's President Bingu wa Mutharika said that China had contributed to promoting world peace and increasing the understanding among the people for long time and the People in Malawi were extremely happy for the Chinese people to have successfully hosted the Olympic Games. Cape Verde's President Pedro Pires said that the Olympic slogan "One World One Dream" put forward by China set a good example for the solidarity and friendship among the people in the world. Seychelles' President James Michel said that China succeeded in hosting the Olympic Games after overcoming the devastating earthquake, which displayed the fortitudinous spirit and extraordinary abilities of the Chinese people in handling difficulties and challenges. The three concepts of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics", which were adopted for the Beijing Olympic Games, were in line with the development concept of the people in Seychelles. Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma extended his best wishes for the complete success of the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics. Sudanese President Lt-Gen Omar al-Bashir said that the Beijing Olympic Games was well organized, the opening ceremony was wonderful and fascinating, and the Beijing Olympic Games was indeed a high-level Olympics with distinguishing features. President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika expressed his admirations for the excellent organization of the Beijing Olympic Games and his belief that the friendly cooperation between China and Algeria would last long. President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic said that the Chinese people stayed united and provided the best conditions for the athletes from different parts of the world to compete and exchange. Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo highly glorified the Chinese people for the national pride they displayed during the preparation and organization of the Olympic Games and what they did for the success of the Olympic Games. He believed that the Beijing Olympic Games would promote the development of China in a fast pace. Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said that though facing devastating natural disasters and other challenges, the Chinese government and people were as strong as the Great Wall in overcoming these difficulties. The Beijing Olympic Games offered an opportunity for the people around the world to know the long and outstanding cultures and traditions of China, and promoted the cooperation and friendship among the countries. Myanmar's Prime Minister Thein Sein said that the Olympic Games not only displayed the outstanding traditions and cultures of China but also showed the image of a contemporary China to the world. Nikola Spiric, Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that China was a successful host country in the Olympic history and the unremitting Chinese people were marching toward a peaceful, stable, prosperous and bright tomorrow. Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said that the opening ceremony not only fully displayed the over-5000-year-long civilization of the Chinese nation, but also deeply touched the audience around the globe. The city of Beijing was green and looked brand-new, which was a reflection of what China had achieved in economic, social and technological fronts. Ahmed Abul El-Gheit, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Javier Solana, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy also sent congratulatory messages to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi respectively.
