On September 4, 2008, H.E. LIU Fei, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of P.R.China to the F.S.M., gave a welcoming dinner to FSM dignitaries and Athletes Delegation attending the Beijing Olympic Games. Gracing the event were H.E. President Emaunel Mori, Dr. Vita Skilling, Secretary of Health, Sports and Social Affairs, and Mr. James Tobin Secretary General of FSMNOC, and athletes from Pohnpei.

President Mori said in his remarks that he appreciated for all the preparation made by the China Embassy for the warm welcome and hospitality to the delegation that visited Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games. He extended his congratulations to the Government and people of China for successfully hosting the greatest Olympic games of all. It was truly a work of art showcasing Chinese history and culture. The accomplishment of the Olympic Games could not have been possible without the great leadership in China and the strong support and commitment of its people.

The visit to Shandong Province was a pleasant and fruitful one. He noted the sister-city relationship that exists between Shandong Province and the State of Kosrae and would hope that the two Governments put efforts to renew their friendship for future cooperation. During the visit to Shandong, he also encouraged a delegation from that province to visit the FSM to explore areas of interest that two peoples can collaborate and benefit from. He returned from China with renewed spirit and determination and to accelerate our cooperation to newer heights. At a time when the global price of food and energy continue to hamper development efforts of small developing countries such as the FSM, he found comfort in the strong relationship and cooperation that exists between the two Governments.

Ambassador LIU appreciated the great efforts made by H.E. Emanuel Mori and the FSM Government to strengthen the friendly and cooperative relations between China and FSM. The visit will infuse a new flow of momentum into the already amicable relationship. In the Olympic Games, FSM athletes also fulfilled their dreams and achieved good results.

Mr. James Tobin handed the specially designed FSM Olympic shirt and caps to Ambassador LIU and the staff as souvenirs. President Mori and Ambassador LIU posed for a group photo with all the guests to mark the occasion.
