Spokesperson on ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF)(10/07/2001)

ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) is the most important venue for official multi-lateral security dialogue and cooperation and its members include major countries in the Asia-Pacific region. At this year's ARF Foreign Ministers' Meeting, same as the previous, participants will continue to have extensive exchange of views on regional and international situation and further discuss the measures to build up confidence. The Chinese side hopes that various parties will continue to strengthen dialogue and cooperation within the forum and make concerted efforts to contribute to peace and stability in Asia-Pacific.

Apart from the ARF ministerial meeting, Foreign Minister Tang will also attend the meeting between ASEAN and China, Japan, ROK foreign ministers (10+3), the second in its history, mainly to review the follow-up actions of the previous 10+3 summit and prepare for this year's 10+3 leaders' meeting. The Chinese side will take this chance to exchange views with various sides on the future development of the cooperation in East Asia.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tang will also attend the dialogue meeting between China and ASEAN (10+1). He will have a further exchange of views with his ASEAN counterparts on deepening cooperation in the new century and other issues including the code of conduct in the South China Sea.
