Spokesperson on Scottish court 's verdict on the Lockerbie bombing case

2001/02/01

Q: A Scottish court issued verdict the other day on the Lockerbie bombing case. What is the comment of the Chinese side?

A: We have taken note that the Scottish court in charge of the trial of the Lockerbie bombing case has issued its verdict on the case. It has been more than ten years since the Lockerbie bombing. As a result, Libya has suffered from years of sanction and the Libyan people and the families of the victims have also experienced tremendous losses and agonies. We hope the verdict will facilitate a final and proper resolution of the case. Meanwhile it is also our hope that the international community will continue to work for the lifting of the sanctions against Libya in the interest of peace and stability in the region.
