2003/10/19

On the morning of October 18, 2003, President Hu Jintao who was in Thailand on a state visit met with Thai Supreme Court President Atthaniti Disatha-Amnarj.

Hu said Sino-Thai relations featuring constantly expanding cooperation and frequent exchange of visits by personnel of different levels had enjoyed good development, adding that bilateral relations had come to be characterized by multi-faceted, all-directional and high-level cooperation. He went on to say that judicial cooperation was part and parcel of bilateral cooperation, noting that the two countries had conducted very fruitful cooperation in the judicial area.

Hu said that one of the basic experiences of China's reform, opening-up and modernization drive was the importance of rule of law and building a socialist country ruled by law. He said China would speed up its law-enacting process, improve quality of such laws and put in place a socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics by 2010. He added that China would love to learn from Thai experiences in such areas and expressed the hope that the judicial departments of both countries would continue to intensify exchanges and cooperation.

Atthaniti noted that the judicial departments of the two countries had maintained fairly good cooperation, adding that China stood out in terms of its judicial arbitration and civil mediation and the Thai judicial departments would like to step up exchanges and cooperation with their Chinese counterparts and they could learn from each other.
