Hu Jintao Meets with German Federal Parliament Speaker Lammert

On the morning of November 11, Chinese President Hu Jintao met in the Parliament building with German Federal Parliament Speaker Norbert Lammert.

Hu said to Lammert that since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 33 years ago, both sides have witnessed smooth development of bilateral relations, solid foundation of political relations and continuous progress of economic and trade cooperation with the cooperation in the areas of science and technology, education, culture, law, tourism and environmental protection steadily expanded and have maintained close communication and coordination in international affairs. To establish and develop bilateral partnership of global responsibility conforms to the fundamental interest of both countries and their people and is conducive to world peace, stability and prosperity.

Hu noted that legislative exchanges are an import part of bilateral relations. The National People's Congress (NPC) of China has conducted sound cooperation and close exchanges with the German Federal Parliament with an obvious increasing of exchanges between the special committees and groups of friendship of both sides. This is beneficial to the development of bilateral relations, as well as enhancement of friendship between both peoples. China supports both sides to further exchanges and cooperation.

Lammert indicated that German people from all walks of life pay close attention to China's great changes, admire its rapid development and hope to see enhanced bilateral cooperation in various areas. The new German Parliament would like to work with the Chinese legislature to expand contact, frequently exchange views, build up mutual understanding and jointly commits to advancing bilateral relations.
