Vice President Hu Jintao Met with Yang d-Pertuan

On April 25, 2000, Vice-President Hu Jintao met with Yang d-Pertuan (Ruler) of Pinang State Abdul Rahman Abbas.
Hu said that he exchanged views with Malaysian Supreme Head of State Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Prime Mahathir Mohanmad and Deputy Prime Minister Abjullah Ahmad Badawi on bilateral relations and some major international issues, and reached broad consensus on the previous day. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the recent development of bilateral relations and are making more joint efforts in finding new fields and ways of expanding bilateral cooperation. He expressed the belief that with joint efforts, China-Malaysia relations will surely develop forward. Hu said that Pinang State has become an important bridge of China-Malaysia friendly cooperation with its close contacts with many Chinese provinces and cities and its sister-city relationship with China's Xiamen. He believed that the State's Teluk Bahang Dam which he visited is yet another example of bilateral friendly cooperation. He hoped that Pinang State will further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China's relevant provinces, districts and cities and promote common development and prosperity. Yang d-Pertuan (Ruler) of Pinang State spoke highly of China's development achievements and some projects contracted by Chinese companies in Malaysia.
