During the meeting, Hu appreciated that Mayor Bloomberg has made great progress in healing the wounds left by the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York City and in revitalizing the city's economy since he took office. He said that the September 11 incident shows again that terrorism has become a common threat to the world, and the international community should step up cooperation in fighting terrorism. Hu also observed that the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese regions and New York City are mutually beneficial and an important part of Sino-U.S. relations. While meeting with Governor George Pataki of New York State and Governor James McGreevey of New Jersey State, Hu expressed his thanks to the two governors for their care and support to the development of Sino-U.S. relations, and voiced his hope that greater achievements will be made in the exchanges and cooperation between the two U.S. states and China in all fields. The two governors said that the development of friendly cooperation between the United States and China is in keeping with the interests of the people of the two countries, and they are looking forward to more effective cooperation with relevant Chinese provinces in such fields as economy and trade, culture and education.
