President Jiang Zemin Met with Russian Presidential Envoy in the Southern Federal District

On the night of June 9, 2002, visiting President Jiang Zemin met with Russian Presidential Envoy in the Southern Federal District Viktor Kazantsev, Chief Executive of the Krasnodar Tkachev, and Mayor of Sochi Mostovoi in Sochi.

Jiang said that the summit meeting of the Shanghai Coorperation Organization (SCO) has just concluded with a perfect success, during which he and Prsident Putin exchanged in-depth opinions on further developing bilateral relations and major international issues of common concern. Jiang said that on the basis of the Treaty of Good-neighborly Friendship and Cooperation between China and Russia, Sino-Russian relations have been developing in an overall manner and achieved satisfactory results. This year marks the first anniversary of the signing of the Treaty. On the basis of the already made achievements, the Chinese side will further strengthen coorperation and exchanges with Russia, and continue to push forward the China-Russia friendly relations. Exchanges and cooperation at local levels are an important part of the friendly relationship. The Chinese side hopes China and Russia will make continued efforts to promote exchanges and mutual understanding at local levels and expand friendly and mutually beneficial coorperation, so as to make the bilateral relations more firm-based and vigorous.

On the part of governments at all levels and all the people in the Southern Federal Distrit, Kazantsev extended a most warm welcome to President Jiang for his visit. He said that with the coming of the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-neighborly friendship and Cooperation between the two countries jointly advocated by President Putin and President Jiang Zemin, friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and China has entered a brand new era. In the just concluded summit meeting of SCO held in St. Pertersburg, the two state leaders met each other again, discussing the prospect of the further expansion of Russia-China coorperation. He said that the Southern Federal District is willing and ready to cooperate with the Chinese counterparts to increase friendship and coorperation, making contribution to the development of the long-term and stable strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries.
