President Jiang Zemin Met with Chairman of the Estonian Parliament Toomas Savi

On the morning of June 13, 2002, President Jiang Zemin met with Chairman of the Estonian Parliament Toomas Savi.

Savi said that President Jiang's visit is a historical event and the first visit to Estonia by China's state of head. It is also the first time that the Estonian Paliament enjoys such a great honor. He extended a warm welcome to President Jiang on part of all the Members of the Parliament.

Jiang said that Savi is not only the Chairman of the Parliament, but also a member of China subcommittee in the Parliament and an old friend of the Chinse people. He has done a great amout of concrete work to increase the mutual understanding of the two peoples and their mutually beneficial cooperation. Jiang said that he always believes that cooperation between the two parliaments constitutes an important part of bilateral relations and the Chinese side welcomes more Members of the Estonian Parliament to visit China so as to deepen the mutual understanding.

Jiang said that through this visit, he has exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensus on bilateral relations and international issues of common concern with Estonian leaders, which has also increased the mutual trust and friendship between the two countries. He added that China attaches great importance to the relations with Estonia and is wiling to make joint efforts with the Estonian side to deepen and expand the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries.

Savi recalled the friendly contact between the Estonian parliament and China's National People's Congress, believing that both sides have learned much from it. Estonian parliament is willing to make further active contribution to promote the development of Estonia-China relations.
