On April 10, 2002, President Jiang Zemin met with Minister-President Manfred Stolpe of Brandenburg in Potsdam, and attended the welcoming banquet hosted by the local government of Brandenburg.

Stolpe extended a warm welcome to Jiang. He said that Brandenburg and China have traditional friendship. Cooperation between the two sides has scored new development in recent years. Brandenburg is ready to open areas of cooperation with the Chinese on that basis.

Jiang is satisfied with the exchanges and cooperation between China and Brandenburg in recent years. He said that the two sides should constantly expand personnel exchanges, particularly between the younger generation, so as to enhance mutual understanding and further expand and deepen friendly relations and cooperation in all fields on the basis of complementarity.
