On September 25, 2002, Premier Zhu Rongji met with President of Danish Parliament Ivar Hansen and other Danish parliamentary leaders in Copenhagen.
Zhu first conveyed to Hansen greetings from Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. Zhu said that Denmark is one of the first countries that established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In the past five decades and more since the two countries forged diplomatic relations, in recent years in particular, bilateral relations have enjoyed sound development. The two countries have no disputes on fundamental interest while their economies are highly complementary. China's rapid economic growth cherishes great potentials for bilateral cooperation. Zhu hoped that the two sides will make joint efforts to further strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Zhu welcomed more Danish parliamentarians to visit China to witness China's changes in the past few years. Hansen said Denmark and China have a long history of friendly contacts, and the Danish government and parliament pay great attention to bilateral relations and will conduct candid dialogue with China. Many Danish parliamentary members have visited China, which played an important role in enhancing the mutual understanding between the two peoples, and the Danish parliament hopes to maintain and continue bilateral friendly exchanges in various aspects. During the meeting, Zhu answered the parliamentarians' questions on China-EU relations, Danish investment in China and China's environmental protection.
