On March 16, 2005, the Foreign Ministry of the Dominican Republic issued a statement, supporting the National People's Congress of China for enacting the Anti-Secession Law. The statement points out that the Law is of great significance, showing the major headways that China has achieved in pushing for the peaceful reunification and the strong commitment of the Chinese government to protecting the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, especially maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits. The Dominican government reiterates its support for the one-China principle.
