Namibia Supports the Anti-Secession Law passed by the National People's Congress of China

2005/03/18

On March 16, 2005, the Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Namibia issued a statement separately, extending support for the Anti-Secession Law passed by the National People's Congress of China (NPC).

The statement of the Parliament indicates that the Parliament of Namibia understands and supports the NPC in passing the Anti-Secession Law which fully demonstrates the resolute determination of the Chinese government and people to realize peaceful reunification and safeguard the national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Namibia always holds that there is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inseparable part of China and maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity is in the core interest of every country. The Parliament fully supports all the active efforts made by the Chinese government and people to that end and holds the best wish that China could realize its reunification at the earliest date possible.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Namibia says that the Anti-Secession Law aims to promote the peaceful reunification of China, maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and oppose and curb the separatist activities of the forces seeking "Taiwan's independence". The government of Namibia reiterates its adherence to the one-China policy.
