The Chinese Government Decides to Provide Emergency Assistance to Indonesia and Other Countries Affected by the Earthquake and Tsunami

On December 27, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao sent messages to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, President Maumoon Abdull Gayoom of Maldives, Prime Minister Manmohan of India, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia of Bangladesh, Prime Minster Thaksin Shinawatra of Thailand and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi of Malaysia and Prime Minister Soe Win of Myanmar, expressing sincere sympathy to the countries torn by the massive earthquake and tsunami which inflicted heavy casualties and property loss and offering deep condolences to the victims on behalf of the Chinese government and people. Premier Wen indicated that the Chinese government has decided to provide emergency assistance to the affected countries. The emergent relief goods will be sent to related countries by air. He said that the Chinese government and people would like to express deep sympathy for the neighboring countries and people and are willing to provide support and aid within their utmost capacity to help them fight against the disaster. It is reported that Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance are accelerating the implementation process.
