Chinese Embassy in Thailand Launches the Emergency Mechanism to Help Chinese Citizens Caught in the Tsunami Disaster

On December 26, 2004, immediately following the earthquake and then the tsunami disasters hitting south Thailand, the Chinese embassy in Thailand launched the emergency mechanism and, under the leadership of Ambassador Zhang Jiuhuan, participated in the endeavors to help the Chinese citizens caught in the disasters. Minister Counselor Pan Guangxue and Consul General Hua Jinzhou of the Consulate-General in Songkhla led a 5-member working team to Phuket Island on the same night and cooperated fully with the Thai authorities in searching Chinese citizens caught in the disasters. On December 29, Counselor Wei Li led another 7 comrades to join the working team in Phuket Island. The emergency mechanism of the embassy is composed of the forefront group, consular group, assistance group, press group, security group and logistics group headed by Minister Counselor Pan Guangxue, Counselor Hu Xiaolan, counselor Xuan Guoxing, Counselor Wu Jun, Military Attaché Zhao Youlin and Director Liu Jie respectively. The consular group stands ready to help Chinese citizens in the disaster hit areas with related certificates.
