The staffs of the Chinese Embassy to Pakistan and the Chinese-funded ventures in Pakistan are deeply concerned of the devastating tsunami in the Indian Ocean. In the spirit of domestic circular, the embassy to Pakistan organized a meeting to communicate the spirit to the staffs in the embassy and Chinese-funded ventures in Pakistan on January 2, 2005. All the departments in the embassy, the Chinese news agencies in Pakistan and over 20 Chinese-funded businesses in Istanbul and Lahore as well as some staffs in the Chinese expert team were so earnest and enthusiastic that they raised US$ 27,000 in less than one day. On the afternoon of January 3, the embassy to Pakistan held a short ceremony to raise money for disaster relief. Ambassador Zhang Chunxiang delivered a speech, expressing gratitude to the staffs of the Chinese Embassy to Pakistan, he Chinese-funded ventures and Chinese news agencies in Pakistan for their humanitarianism and generosity of in donation for the disaster areas, and encouraging them to carry on the spirit that blood is thicker than water and implement the foreign policy of "bringing harmony, prosperity and security to neighbours" in concrete deeds so as to make their due contribution to great cause of building of a well-off society in an all-round manner.
