As of 10:00am, January 3, 2005, the death toll caused by the tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka topped 29,957. 16,665 people were injured, 5,744 missing and 861,016 people or 190,738 households homeless. 91,754 houses were totally destroyed by the tsunami and 25,604 were partially damaged. At present the government established 827 temporary shelters nationwide.
