President Hu Jintao Starts His State Visit to Cambodia from Phnom Penh

On March 30, 2012, President Hu Jintao arrived in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia and started his state visit to Cambodia. He was warmly welcomed by the Cambodian royal family, government and people.

At 16:20 local time, President Hu's special plane arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport. President Hu Jintao and his wife Liu Yongqing were warmly welcomed by the representatives of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, including Chief Advisor of the King's Advisory Court Prince Norodom Ranariddh, Princess Norodom Bopha Devi and Prince Chiwanmonirak.

President Hu delivered a written speech at the airport and extended the sincere greetings and best wishes of the Chinese people to the Cambodian people. Hu said that China and Cambodia are friendly neighbors in tradition. The good-neighborly friendship between China and Cambodia, which was earnestly cultivated and developed by the older generations of leaders of the two countries, has withstood the tests of time and ever-changing international situation and has been flourishing. In 2010, China and Cambodia established a comprehensive strategic partnership, which indicates that the friendly cooperation between the two countries has entered a new historical period. The two countries enjoy political mutual trust and the cooperation in various fields is productive. The two countries have maintained close communication and coordination concerning international and regional affairs. Such bilateral relationship can be regarded as a model of equal treatment and sincere cooperation for state-to-state relationship. The development of such friendly and cooperative relations is not only in line with the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples but also conducive to regional stability and prosperity.

President Hu said that during his visit he would meet with King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Chea Sim, President of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin, and Prime Minister Hun Sen and have an in-depth exchange of views with them on issues of common concern. He said that he was looking forward to knowing more of Cambodia's long history, brilliant culture and great changes that have taken place. He also expressed the belief that his visit will consolidate traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, promote common development and contribute to long-term and stable development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo and other accompanying officials arrived by the same plane.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Kong Sam Ol, Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith, and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue were also waiting at the airport to greet the Chinese delegation.

The Cambodian people accorded President Hu with warm welcome. One could see the national flags of China and Cambodia flying in the wind at Phnom Penh International Airport, the huge pictures of President Hu Jintao, his wife Liu Yongqing and King Sihamoni standing tall and upright, and the banner with "Long Live China-Cambodia Solidarity and Friendship" hanging on the wall. Along the road from the airport to the downtown, the local teenagers and people were waving national flags of China and Cambodia and flowers to warmly welcome distinguished guests from China and express their friendly feelings toward the Chinese people and their best wishes for Cambodia-China relations.

Hu Jintao arrived in Phnom Penh after his attendance of the 4th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.

When President Hu left New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia representing the Indian government, and Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan went to the airport to see the Chinese delegation off.
