Hu Jintao Meets with Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf and Leaders of Indonesia Parliament

On the afternoon of April 25, 2005, President Hu Jintao, who was paying a state visit to Indonesia, met respectively with Jusuf, Vice President of Indonesia, Hidayat, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly, Agung, Speaker of the People's Representative Assembly of Indonesia and Ginanjar, Speaker of the Regional People's Representative Council and held friendly talks with them on deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Meeting with Jusuf in the hotel that he stayed, Hu Jintao said that China-Indonesia relations have entered a new period of rapid, healthy and stable development. I have held a fruitful meeting with President Susilo and we have reached common consensus on establishing the strategic partnership between the two countries and signed the joint statement. Under the guidance of the new goal, the relations between China and Indonesia will surely develop better. Talking of the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, Hu Jintao indicated that China and Indonesia are both developing countries and developing the economy is the most important mission of both countries. In recent years, the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has achieved great progress, bring about tangible and substantial interests to the people of both countries. The two countries should continue to strengthen the cooperation in such important fields as infrastructure construction, exploitation of energy and resource, agriculture and fishery, make better use of complementary advantages and promote the common development.

Jusuf expressed that the joint statement signed by President Hu and President Susilo has pointed out the direction for the two countries to gradually expand the friendly cooperation in various fields. The economic growth of Indonesia is recovering and the domestic and international investment is increasing. He agreed that both sides should further tap the cooperation potentials in such fields as infrastructure construction and the exploitation of resource.

Later Hu Jintao headed for the capitol and separately met with Hidayat, Agung and Ginanjar. Hu Jintao positively commented on the achievements of China-Indonesia relations in recent years. Hu introduced the meeting with President Susilo on the morning, the common consensus reached on establishing the strategic partnership between the two countries and various measures that should be adopted. He emphasized that this year is the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Indonesia. The decision of both sides to establish the strategic partnership marks that the relations of both countries have entered a new development period.

Hu Jintao expressed that the communications between the parliaments is the important part of bilateral relations. For many years, China's NPC has maintained frequent exchanges with the legislative authorities and exchanged experiences in legislation, which have made important contribution to the accomplishment of each other's duties and the promotion of bilateral relations. We support both sides to further expand communications and learn from each other so as to make new contribution to driving the strategic partnership between both countries towards comprehensive development.

Hu Jintao was asked to introduce the economic and social development of China, the development of the western regions and the rejuvenation of old industrial bases like Northeastern region.

Hidayat, Agung and Ginanjar sang high praise for the aid and support of the Chinese government and people after Indonesia suffered from the earthquake and tsunami. They believed that President Hu's visit to Indonesia has achieved a complete success, which will certainly promote comprehensive development of bilateral relations on a new basis. They hope to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with the related agencies and ministries of China and make contribution to deepening bilateral relations.

On the same evening, Hu Jintao and his wife Liu Yongqing attended the grand welcome banquet hosted by President Susilo and his wife. The heads of both countries ardently delivered speech and expressed the wish for the everlasting friendliness between the people of China and Indonesia. After the banquet, two heads of state watched the wonderful artistic shows performed by the Indonesian artists.
