Hu Jintao Meets with President Emomali Rakhmonov of Tajikistan

Chinese President Hu Jintao met in Jakarta with President Emomali Rakhmonov of Tajikistan on the afternoon of April 23.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the smooth development of China-Tajikistan relations. Hu said to Rakhmonov as friendly neighbors and members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), China and Tajikistan enjoy special friendly relations. We had a meeting in Tashkent last June and reached broad consensus over the further development of bilateral relations. Relevant departments have been making full efforts to implement these consensuses ever since and bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields has witnessed new achievements over the past 11 months. Bilateral trade volume increases significantly. We have also conducted sound cooperation within the framework of the SCO and other international organizations, jointly contributing to safeguarding regional stability and promoting regional development. Rakhmonov highly commented Tajikistan-China good neighborly and friendly cooperation. He reiterated it is the basic policy for Tajikistan to constantly expand cooperation with China. The ever closer Tajikistan-China relationship is conducive to regional peace, stability and development. Tajikistan is fully confident about the future of bilateral relations.

When talking about enhancing economic and trade cooperation between the two nations, Rokhmonov said that Tajikistan and China open new ports in the boundary area is conducive to regional development. Bilateral cooperation in agriculture and enterprise technology upgrading enjoys promising prospect. Hu said China-Tajikistan mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation boasts huge potential. The two sides should make full use of their complementary advantages to explore new areas of cooperation. The Chinese government will continue to provide support for the economic development of Tajikistan within its utmost capacity and encourage competent businesses to conduct various forms of cooperation with Tajikistan.

The two presidents also exchanged views on the regional situation of Central Asia and the SCO. They believed the SCO plays an important role in maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting regional cooperation and development. The member states should enhance solidarity and coordination, render support for each other and jointly promote the cooperation in economy, trade and security within the SCO so as to ensure the stable and sound development of the organization.
