Hu Jintao Meets with Leaders of Kazakh Parliament

On the afternoon of July 4, 2005, President Hu Jintao who was on a visit to Kazakhstan met in the hotel where he stayed in Astana with Chairman of the upper house of the Kazakh parliament Nurtai Abykaev and Chairman of the lower house of the parliament Ural Muhamedzanov and conducted friendly talks with them on further enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields. Hu indicated the Chinese and the Kazakh people enjoy profound traditional friendship. With frequent top-level exchanges of visit, growing political mutual trust as well as mutual understanding and support on important issues concerning independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, bilateral relations have witnessed sound development since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The comprehensive cooperation in economy, trade, energy, transportation and humanities has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries. It is compliant with the aspiration and interest of both peoples and also conducive to regional peace and stability for China and Kazakhstan to establish a strategic partnership to uplift bilateral relations to a higher level. Hu said the comprehensive and smooth development of China-Kazakhstan friendly relations is inseparable with the efforts of the legislative bodies of the two countries. The close exchanges and friendly cooperation between the legislative bodies have not only injected vitality to bilateral relations, but also increased the mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples. We support the legislative bodies of the two countries to further enhance their friendly exchanges and cooperation at multiple levels in a bid to contribute to the development of China-Kazakhstan strategic partnership. Hu Jintao appreciated the adoption of the Anti-Extremism Law by the Kazakh parliament. He said to sternly fight against the "three forces" helps create a peaceful and stable development environment for the people in the region. Abykaev said President Hu's visit to Kazakhstan is very fruitful and further identifies the future orientation of bilateral relations. The Kazakh parliament firmly opposes the "three forces" and "Taiwan independence" and supports China's endeavor for national reunification. He also noted that the upper house of the Kazakh parliament will enhance the mechanism of exchange with China's legislative body. Muhamedzanov said it is a consensus of the various parties and societies in the lower house of the Kazakh parliament to continuously enhance the friendship and cooperation with China. We support the Kazakh government to take active measures to boost Kazakhstan-China mutually beneficial cooperation. We are also looking forward to having closer relations with China's National People's Congress to learn from each other.
