On July 6, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived at Scotland, UK to attend the dialogue between the leaders of G8 nations and China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico to be held on July 7 and hold a collective meeting with the leaders of India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico.

At about 18:10 local time, the charted plane taken by Hu Jintao arrived at the Prestwick airport where Hu and his wife Liu Yongqing were received by the representative of British Queen and the senior officials of British Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and other accompanying personnel arrived by the same plane.

Chinese Ambassador to Britain Cha Peixin and staffs of the embassy welcomed President Hu at the airport.

It is the second time for President Hu Jintao to attend the dialogue between the leaders of G8 nations and developing countries after the 2003 Evian summit. It is said that the dialogue to be held in Eagle Valley of Scotland on July 7 will focus on the global economy, climate change and other major international issues. At the dialogue Hu will expound China's stance and opinions on those issues.

Prior to the dialogue, Hu will hold a collective meeting with the leaders of India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico and exchange in-depth views with them on advancing South-South cooperation and realizing common development.

Hu arrived at Scotland after wrapping up his visit to Kazakhstan and attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. Before departing from Astana, Hu met with staffs of the Chinese embassy in Kazakhstan and representatives of local Chinese-funded organizations and overseas Chinese students.
