President Hu Jintao met with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in Gleneagles, Scotland on July 7. Hu said China-Germany relations are developing smoothly. The two countries hold identical or similar views and enjoy sound coordination and collaboration on important international and regional issues. With the attention and support of the leaders in both countries, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has scored remarkable achievements. Mr. Chancellor's 6 visits to China have contributed significantly to the development of bilateral relations, for which China is highly appreciated. China believes Germany has been pursuing peace and development since the end of World War II and has become an important force in maintaining regional and world peace and stability. China would like to work with Germany to further enhance political mutual trust, expand economic and trade cooperation, and boost bilateral exchanges in energy, education, culture, science and technology, and humanities, so as to jointly push forward the development of China-Germany relations. Schroeder said Germany-China relations are at its best in history. Bilateral cooperation in various fields is very fruitful. He listened to President Hu Jintao's speech during the dialogue attentively and was impressed by China's proposals on jointly stabilizing international energy market and addressing deep-rooted problems affecting world economy. Schroeder indicated Germany would like to enhance cooperation with China in the area of energy, especially clean energy, renewable energy and alternative energy, to jointly promote the coordination between economic development and population, resources and environment.
