The Joint Communiqué on Comprehensive Cooperation in the New Century signed during President Tran Duc Luong's visit to China in 2000 has defined the orientation of bilateral cooperation in various fields. We believe as long as we look into the future, approach from the overall perspective, and trust and understand each other, bilateral relations will witness sound and stable development. Tran Duc Luong said Vietnam highly prioritizes the development of comprehensive friendly and cooperative relations with China, which accords with the fundamental interests of both peoples and has major importance to peace and development in the region. When meeting with Nguyen Van An, Premier Wen Jiabao conveyed to him the earnest greetings from Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). In recent years, the legislative bodies in the two countries have conducted active communication with frequent exchanges of visits by leaderships. We hope that lawmakers of both countries will strengthen exchanges and make positive contributions to safeguarding and boosting bilateral friendly cooperation and to the comprehensive development of bilateral ties. Nguyen Van An congratulated China on its tremendous achievements made since the advent of reform and opening-up, noting that China's economic and social development has provided Vietnam with precious experience. The Vietnamese National Assembly will do its utmost to advance Vietnam-China friendship and facilitate the implementation of the consensus reached and agreements signed by the leaders of the two countries. The National Assembly will, as always, uphold the one-China policy, support China's reunification cause, and firmly oppose any form of "Taiwan independence".
