2011/04/29

On April 29, 2011, Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao met in Jakarta with members of the International Medical Corps in Indonesia who once participated in the relief activities after Wenchuan was hit by the massive earthquake.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Wen expressed tribute and gratitude to the members for their outstanding contributions to enhancing the friendship between the Chinese and Indonesian people. He said that the Indonesian government and people extended assistance to the Chinese people immediately after the outbreak of Wenchuan earthquake and dispatched the medical corps composed of more than 20 members to the disaster-hit Wenxian County, Gansu. The members interpreted the great international humanitarian spirit with tangible actions. They not only brought about emergency medical treatment services but also the friendly feelings of the Indonesian people for the Chinese people. He hopes China and Indonesia continue with disaster prevention and reduction cooperation and jointly build up capacity of handling major natural disasters. He encouraged the members to continue to support China-Indonesia friendship and extended welcome to them to visit China again.

According to the corps members, they established brotherly friendship with their Chinese counterparts and the local people after one month of carrying out relief in China. China dispatched the rescue team to Indonesia and brought about the friendly feeling and valuable support of the Chinese people immediately after Indonesia was hit by earthquake and tsunami in 2004. They expect to help increase the friendship between the Indonesian and Chinese people through the bilateral cooperation on disaster relief.

At the end of the meeting, Wen took photos with each of the members.
