Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with Czech President Klaus

On December 9, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with Czech President Vaclav Klaus in Prague. Both sides are satisfied with the development of bilateral relations in recent years and are determined to continue joint efforts in pushing bilateral friendly cooperative relations for sound development. Wen said that in recent years, bilateral relations have been developing steadily. The leaders of both sides have maintained contact and built up mutual understanding and trust. Both sides have used their respective advantages to conduct a series of fruitful economic and trade cooperation. Besides, their exchanges in the areas of science & technology and humanities are more dynamic with an increasing of non-governmental and regional exchanges. Bilateral relations are developing towards a broader area from a new starting point. Wen pointed out that both sides have neither fundamental conflicts of interests, nor outstanding problems. The important basis of bilateral relations is mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits. To further bilateral cooperation is not only due to the fact that both sides enjoy a friendly tradition, but also has realistic needs. So long as both sides can start from the long-term interest of the two countries and their people, bilateral cooperation in various areas will made continuous headway. It is hoped that both countries will further advance exchanges, expand cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, investment and humanities and push for the smooth development of bilateral relations. Klaus was delighted with increased bilateral exchanges and deepened cooperation. He indicated that China's development has exerted a significant impact on the world including Czech. Czech attaches great importance to relations with China, makes positive comments on China's role in international affairs and hopes to become its reliable cooperative partner. It is hoped that both sides will strengthen political dialogue, economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges so that bilateral relations will develop in an all-round manner.
