Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds a Phone Conversation with His Pakistani Counterpart

On May 4, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who is accompanying Premier Wen Jiabao during the latter's visit to Germany, held a phone conversation with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri.

Kasuri expressed his profound condolences and deep sympathy for the casualties of Chinese engineers in the car explosion incident at Gwadar Port. He said that the Pakistani top leadership and government have given top priority to the incident after it happened and have organized forces for its investigation while trying their utmost to rescue and treat the injured.

Expressing his thanks for the efforts by the Pakistani government and relevant departments to rescue and treat the Chinese engineers, Li demanded Pakistani side continue to try its utmost in this regard, find out the cause of the incident as early as possible and severely punish the killers according to law.

Li noted that China attaches great importance to its friendly relations of cooperation with Pakistan and the Gwadar Port project is a key cooperation project between the two countries. China would like to continue to make joint efforts with Pakistan for smooth development of this project.
