On February 25, 2011, Mongolian Prime Minister Batbold Sukhbaatar met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.
Yang said China and Mongolia are friendly neighbors and their relations have moved forward in an all-round manner in recent years. He said last year Prime Minister Batbold and President Elbegdorj visited China successively and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful visit to Mongolia. The meetings between the leaders of the two countries on many international occasions strongly pushed forward bilateral ties. Bilateral trade in 2010 increased 60 percent year on year and the number of personnel exchanges was over 1 million, he said, adding China was satisfied with the sound development of bilateral ties.
Yang said China highly values the China-Mongolia relationship, adding consolidating and developing bilateral friendly cooperation is China's persistent policy. China is willing to make joint efforts with Mongolia to further cement their good-neighborly friendship, grasp development opportunities and push forward pragmatic cooperation, in a bid to push bilateral friendly and cooperative ties onto a new level and bring tangible benefits to the two peoples.
Batbold, for his part, said the Mongolia-China relationship is currently at a very sound stage of development. He said that during his visit to China and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Mongolia last year, both sides exchanged in-depth views and reached important consensus on comprehensively pushing forward bilateral relations especially on enhancing pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other areas, thus laying a solid foundation for development of bilateral ties. Batbold emphasized Mongolia-China cooperation is facing new opportunities at present, noting both countries should look forward into the future to further strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, energy, mining and infrastructure construction, and to expand exchanges between the two peoples to push forward bilateral ties.
Yang arrived in Mongolia on February 24 for a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Mongolian counterpart Gombojav Zandanshatar.
