On February 17, 2011, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met respectively with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Yerevan.
During the meeting with Yang, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that his country thanks for China’s long-standing assistance to Armenia’s economic and social development. Calling China a great country, he said Armenia attaches great importance to China’s important influence and hopes to strengthen ties with China and deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in all areas.
When meeting with Yang, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Armenia is satisfied with the outcome of Armenia-China economic and trade cooperation in recent years. Armenia hopes to further develop cooperation with China in such areas as infrastructure construction, high-tech and agriculture and welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in Armenia.
Yang said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 19 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly and achieved new outcomes. China appreciates Armenia’s adherence to the one-China policy and its support on issues concerning China’s core interests. China is ready to work with Armenia to earnestly implement the consensus reached by President Hu Jintao and President Serzh Sargsyan on how to uplift the level of China-Armenia relations under the new situation, maintain high-level visits and continuously build up political trust. Yang urged both sides to enhance cooperation on economy, trade, infrastructure, agriculture and telecommunications to achieve mutual benefit, adding that both sides should also deepen cultural, education and regional exchanges, build up mutual understanding and friendship between both peoples and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs.
The Chinese minister also met with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian on February 17, exchanging views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.
