Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Attends the Opening Ceremony of Asian Forum

2010/03/26

On March 26, 2010, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Forum jointly hosted by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and China Institute of International Studies.

In his address, Foreign Minister Yang first recalled his life as a student in LSE, then elaborated on China's foreign policies and shared his views on current international situation. He pointed out that mankind witnessed many significant events in the first decade of the 21st century and faced unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Countries in the world must work together with solidity, stay in harmony, and cooperate hand-in-hand so as to build a better home of the earth. He believed that the priority should be given to: first, insisting on multilateralism and advancing the democratization of international relations; second, strengthening global cooperation and addressing challenges of global nature and regional hotspot issues; third, sticking to the principle of mutual benefit and win-win results and promoting pragmatic cooperation between countries; fourth, enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges and deepening people's mutual understanding of each other. Yang lastly encouraged the schoolfellows of LSE to build up more bridges promoting the exchange and cooperation between countries and consolidating friendship between the people.

Foreign Minister Yang accepted the certificate of LSE Alumni of Honor awarded by LSE after his address.
