H.E. Mr. Yang Youming, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, and his wife Mme. Geng Hailing, attended the Spring Festival Luncheon held by the Chung Shan Association of Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 20, 2013. Around 300 guests including leaders from the local Chinese Community, members of the Chung Shan Association and their friends and families, and the diplomats of the Chinese Embassy were present.

Ambassador Yang, in his remarks, wished everyone good health and success in the new year. He said that the year 2012 was a year of stability and development for China. China successfully held the 18th National Congress of CPC and completed the smooth transition of leadership. China achieved a rapid economic growth of 7.8% and people benefited greatly from it with income increase for both the urban and rural population. As Trinidad and Tobago celebrated its 50th anniversary of Independence last year, China was happy for the great achievements the twin-island country had made in the past 50 years. China and Trinidad and Tobago enjoyed a stable development of bilateral relations in the past year, with constant high–level visits, frequent exchanges in education and cultural fields and increased vitality in the economic and trade cooperation. Ambassador Yang wished both China and Trinidad and Tobago greater achievements and a further development of the bilateral relations in the new year.

Ambassador Yang also expressed his gratitude for the Chinese Community in Trinidad and Tobago, for all their efforts of promoting the friendship between China and Trinidad and Tobago, and encouraged them to continue their contributions for the economic and social development of the two countries, as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Mr. Joseph Tai Chew, President of the Chung Shan Association, greeted the guests with his best wishes for a happy new Year of the Snake. He highly praised the great achievements of China in recent years and the further development of the cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and China. He promised that the Chinese Communitry in Trinidad and Tobago would continue their effort to make new contributions for the development of China and Trinidad and Tobago and the promotion of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
