August 22, 2007, Nairobi. Ambassador Zhang Ming hosted a reception for the 40 students who have been awarded the Chinese Government Scholarships for 2007/2008 academic year in the Chinese Embassy.

Hon. Joseph Konzolo Munyao, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Development, Hon. Morris Dzoro, Minister for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Kilemi Mwiria, Assistant Minister for Education, representatives from various ministries, organizations and media houses, and the admitted students as well as their family members attended the function.

In his speech, Ambassador Zhang Ming expressed his congratulations on the students who were scheduled to go to China in early September this year. Being devoted to supporting Kenya in educational development, China had continuously provided scholarships to the Kenyan students since 1982. This year, the Chinese Government had increased the number of scholarships to 80 and was still considering to provide more so as to fulfill its pledges announced during the Beijing Summit of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation last November, said Ambassador Zhang.

The Kenyan ministers conveyed the appreciations of the Kenyan Government to the Chinese side for its kind assistance in the field of education and urged the admitted students to utilize this precious chance to acquire professional skills and learn China's development experiences that would be contributing to the realization of "Vision 2030" in Kenya.

On behalf of the admitted students, Mr. Wanyama Indeje, a doctoral candidate, expressed their heartfelt gratitude and pledged to devote themselves diligently to the studies in China and contribute to bring the two countries closer.

Admission notices were handed out to the students by Ambassador Zhang Ming and the Kenyan ministers at the function.
