Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao Gives Interview to Radio Veritas
H.E. Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao had an interview with Radio Veritas last Friday on issues such as Sino-Liberia relations, Sino-U.S. relations in Liberia and One China Policy.
When asked about the main task of the Chinese Embassy at the moment, Ambassador Zhou indicated that the foremost task of the Embassy currently is to implement the agreements and common understandings reached during the mutual exchange of state visits of the Heads of States of China and Liberia and to fulfill the promises of aid to Liberia. Ambassador Zhou listed the aid projects in agricultural, medical, infrastructural sectors and in human resources development. He also informed the listeners of the preparations and progress being made in the rehabilitation of the road between Monrovia and Buchanan, which draws great attention of all circles.
With regard to the allegation that China is competing with the United States in Liberia, Ambassador Zhou pointed out that the development of relations between China and Liberia is not directed at any third party. China seeks to develop normal relations with any other country which wishes to do the same with China and advocates building a harmonious world.
Ambassador Zhou further pointed out that no country, be it China or the U.S., can help to resolve the problems in Liberia single-handedly. The development of Liberia needs the support of the whole international community including China and the United States. Ambassador Zhou noted that China and the U.S. hold the same stand on issues of debt cancellation for Liberia, the extension of UNMIL and have a good cooperation in the rebuilding and expanding of the Fendell Campus of the University of Liberia. He expressed hope to see more cooperation between the two countries in Liberia.
Ambassador Zhou noted, when commenting on intention of some Liberians to develop relations with Taiwan, all the three arms of Liberian Government pursue the One China Policy and to develop friendly relations between China and Liberia is the common understanding of the Liberian society. The Ambassador hoped that once they come to a full understanding of the Taiwan issue, they will turn to support Liberian government's One China Policy. He said that recent history proves that the One China Policy best serves the interests of the two countries.
Ambassador Zhou also expressed satisfaction over Sino-Liberian relations and pledged to make unremitting efforts to enhance the bilateral relations with practical deeds rather than empty words.
