Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ming Donated Bio-Center in Nairobi's Huruma Village

February 14, 2008, Nairobi. Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ming handed over a donation of 25,000 U.S. Dollars to UNEP to help Nairobi's Huruma village setting up a Bio-Center,which is a multi-purpose project including latrine, public bath, biogas producing system and community activity center.

Ambassador Zhang Ming said in the Ground Breaking Ceremony that building a Bio-Center could provide comprehensive service to the residents in Huruma village and help the environmental protection around the area. He said this project will become a good example of Sino-UNEP cooperation in helping Kenyan slums and a symbol of Sino-Kenya friendship.

Representatives from UNEP, UN-HABITAT, UNDP, Narobi City Council and Huruma Community made speeches and sincerely thanked the generous donation from the Chinese Embassy. After the Ground Breaking Ceremony, Ambassador Zhang went to Karura Forest near Huruma village to plant trees with other guests.
