Chinese Ambassador Interviewed by CBN

(By Chinese Embassy in the U.S.)
2008/04/07

On April 2, 2008, H. E. Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, the Chinese Ambassador paid a visit to the Christian broadcasting Network (CBN) and was interviewed by Mr. Pat Robertson, the founder, chairman of CBN and host of the program "The 700 Club".

In this exclusive interview, Ambassador Zhou expounded the position of the Chinese Government on recent riots in Lhasa. He said it was by no means a religious or ethnic issue, but rather an issue of law and order. No responsible government in the world would sit by and watch when faced with this kind of violent crime. Thanks to efforts by the Government of Tibet Autonomous Region, the situation in Lhasa has been stabilized.

Ambassador Zhou said Tibet is an inalienable part of China. The Chinese Government has all along kept in touch with the Dalai Lama side with great patience. The Chinese Government is ready to continue contacts and consultation with the Dalai Lama, as long as he truly abandons advocating "Tibet independence" and stops activities aimed at splitting the motherland, especially activities to fan and mastermind violent crimes in Tibet as well as in some other regions and to sabotage the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, and accepts that Tibet and Taiwan are inalienable parts of China.

Ambassador Zhou also talked about other topics including the Beijing Olympics, the Olympic Torch Relay, China-US relations and China's economic development.
