Executive Council of the OPCW commences its 53 session in The Hague on June 24, 2008. All 41 members of the Executive Council have sent delegations to the conference. H.E. Ambassador Zhang Jun, Chinese Ambassador to the Netherlands and Representative to the OPCW, addresses general debate of the conference today. Ambassador Zhang illustrates views and policies of the Chinese government on issues of Chemical Weapons Destruction, International Cooperation and Industrial Verification Regime, etc. He calls upon international society pay more attention to the Destruction of Abandoned Chemical Weapons and Old Chemical Weapons. Ambassador then take an example of an accident recently happened in Taiyuan City of China which was caused by some Leaking Japanese Abandoned Chemical Weapons (JACW), to highlight the real threaten and urgency of early solution of JACW. Ambassador Zhang also takes this opportunity to extend sincere gratitude of the Chinese government to international society and the OPCW for their valuable support to the affected people of the May 12 earthquake.
