Press Release The Chinese Embassy in Namibia would like to express its deep sympathy to the people affected by the floods in the northern part of Namibia. Bearing in mind the long-standing friendship between the Chinese people and the Namibian people, and to express our support to the Namibian Government's efforts to combat the devastating effects of the floods, the Chinese Embassy has made 1000 bedquilts available to be delivered immediately to those affected families who need them urgently. The 1000 bedquilts are donated by Mr. Jack Huang, a Chinese business man in Oshikango, Chairman of the Chinese Loving Heart Foundation in Namibia. These quilts cost about N$ 100,000. The donation has highlighted the love and solidarity of the Chinese business community for the Namibian brothers and sisters who are victims of the floods. These bedquilts are handed over by the Chinese Ambassador H. E. Madame Ren Xiaoping to the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Libertina Amathila at the Handover Ceremony on 1 April 2009 at the Office of the Prime Minister. Apart from the bedding items, the Chinese Government will assist the Namibian Government and people in providing 12 training courses for the post-flood reconstruction in the affected areas. These courses include malaria control, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, food security, rainwater catchment and utilization, environment pollution control, emergency medical treatment and prevention for children, and treatment of infection, parasitic diseases and animal epidemics. These courses will welcome about 20 relevant Namibian personnel to China between April and October 2009. The Chinese Government will pay all the expenses involved including the round-trip international air-tickets. The application documents of the above-mentioned training courses have been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Planning Commission of Namibia, who will select and recommend proper participants. The Chinese Embassy will continue to make efforts to solicit more assistance from the Chinese side to help the flood affected people in Namibia. Those from the Chinese side present at the Handover Ceremony on 1 April 2009: H.E. Madame Ren Xiaoping, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Mr. Dai Yuming, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Jack Huang, Chairman of the Chinese Loving Heart Foundation in Namibia
