Ambassador Lan Lijun Visits P.E.I.

At the invitation of Hon. Robert to Canada Ghiz, Premier of Prince Edward Island province, H. E. Lan Lijun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Canada, paid an official visit to the province from 7 to 9 September 2009. Ambassador Lan paid a courtesy call on Hon. Barbara Hagerman, Lieutenant-Governor of P.E.I., and met with Premier Ghiz, followed by discussions with Mr. Neil LeClair, Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development, and Mr. Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. They had extensive exchange of views on China-Canada relations and cooperation between China and P.E.I..

During his visit, Ambassador Lan also toured University of P.E.I. where he met with Mr. Wade MacLauchlan, President of the UPEI and delivered a speech titled Work Together to Build Better China-Canada Relationship. Ambassador Lan also met with representatives from the Chinese community and Chinese students in P.E.I..

On 10 September, Ambassador Lan visited Moncton, New Brunswick, and presented to the local Chinese community the lion and dragon dancing costume donated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of the P. R. China. Also present at the ceremony was Mayor George LeBlanc.

Consular officlas from the Chinese Embassy provided on-spot passport and document service to the local Chinese community.
