H.E. Mr. Yang Youming, ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, met with Ms. Karen Nunez-Tesheira, Finance Minister of Trinidad and Tobago on Nov. 19, 2009. They exchanged views on further enhancing bilateral cooperation in investment, finance and other fields between China and Trinidad and Tobago.

Minister Nunez-Tesheira extended her warm welcome to Ambassador Yang, and said that there exists traditional friendship between the peoples of China and Trinidad and Tobago. She expressed that the government of Trinidad and Tobago attaches great importance to developing its economic and trade relations with China. The newly completed National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), constructed by a Chinese company, has become a landmark building for the whole country.

Minister Nunez-Tesheira said that Trinidad and Tobago is to become the financial centre and trade and investment harbour of the Caribbean region. The Chinese companies are most welcome to open their offices in the new International Financial Centre and they can enjoy the preferable policies offered by the government of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago, for its unique geographical location, can serve as a portal for the Chinese companies to tap markets in the Caribbean region and South America.

Ambassador Yang thanked Minister Nunez-Tesheira for the importance and support the government of Trinidad and Tobago has given to the bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries. He told the Minister that China is pursuing the strategy of going global, and will continue to encourage Chinese companies to come to Trinidad and Tobago, to explore more effective ways for comprehensive cooperation with local companies, in order to seek common development and achieve win-win result.
